'Exorcist: The Beginning' 2004 Morgan Creek Productions starring Stellan Skarsgård, Izabella Scorupco and James D'Arcy Length: 114mins
Today Michael, my sister and I went to see the new Exorcist. I wasn't really sure what to expect. The reviews aren't that great on it but I usually don't agree with the reviewers.
So we go in armed with my pocketbook full of candy and two bottles of water. Yeah I know, but I'm not paying that much for their stupid candy. They are so over priced.
The scariest part of that movie was this huge ass needle they used to give this boy an injection with. hehe Things may bother me but nothing in this movies was really scary. Not to me. I enjoyed it for the story line. I will say that I had on a couple of problems with the movie. The first being that they brought up that the church that they were uncovering was built on top of a pagan site. In the movies though pagan equaled evil. They even say that the main character Father Merrick or Merrit... Think it was Merrick, said that he found where sacrifices were made.... human sacrifices... Then they bring in Sumerian like they were evil. Since Inanna has been one of the Goddesses in my life I took offense.
The story, as the title indicates, is the prequel for The Exorcist. It takes place in South Africa, must be fairly close to Nairobi because Mr. Merrick goes to speak with the archeologist that had started the dig. Merrick had lost his faith and turned his back on God. There was no proof to him that God existed. Merrick was a Priest in a town that the Nazi overrun. It takes quite a while before you see the extent of why he lost his faith. I can say in his shoes it would be very easy to do. There a couple of twist that keep you from being sure who the bad guy is. The acting is fine so that's not a problem. I think it just lacked the punch of the original which most do.
Personally I would say rent the movie. It's worth a watch but I wouldn't say worth the price of a ticket. Enjoy it though. See it for what it is.
