Tethered
by Georgia Langley

I see a bird who is tethered
    Darkness is all you see
    The tether holds you fast
    When did this happen?
When did you lose your freedom?
Feeling the constriction on your leg
    You pull to free yourself
    Again you settle
No fight left in you, hopeless
The hood is taken from your head
Now you see what is around you
Freedom is yours or so it seems
Then again you feel the tether
but for an instant you had hope
How long have you thought this same thing?
In an instant the tether is released
With a surge of power up into the sky you rush
    Soaring so high
The currents you ride are powerful
but you are a master of the air
    The joy of spiraling
Searching for what is in your heart
    What were you looking for?
    You hear the call
His arm is held up for you to return
Lighten you know the hood will be again placed on your head
the tether will again be held.
Your flight, your freedom was an illusion
